Elodie was taught how to weave magick the second that she was able to formulate words. This has made her vastly skilled in the art.❝ DEMON CARVING. an ancient art passed through her family. one is to taint their skin with the sigils of devils in order to channel their abilities through the individual. in Elodie's instance, this is the sigils engraved in her hands, wrists & arms so they cannot be removed by natural means. many other members of her family have done the same. they allow Elodie to evoke dark and unholy magick, through summonings, invocations and possessions. it is to fight fire with fire.
▍ ❝ EARLY LIFE
The family business was always something of huge importance to the Madame Lecleric. She believed that children, the moment they showed cognitive ability, were expected to learn about the occult and their symbolisms. Academic excellency was still expected and was a bare minimum. The day was spent on the child's educational career as well as extra curricular activities such as further language studies, or literature. The evenings and nights were then free and available for further study and research into the occult. Being the only child of Madame Lecleric then, Elodie was expected to follow such regiments. Failure was not ever considered. Madame Lecleric then believed that once the child hit appropriate maturity, which for Elodie was the age of 12, they would be expected to help the family business against the demonic and devilish. They would participate in exorcisms to gain first hand experience. They would engage with the devils firsthand, no matter the danger as, again, failure was not ever considered.Every waking moment was in the pursuit of equipping her against the hells that waited and the betterment of the mind. Elodie knew that this upbringing was far from
normal, but when nurtured in such conditions, you serve and do not question.▍ ❝ THE ENGRAVING
As per tradition, according to her mother, upon the eighteenth birthday would the hands, arms and wrists be engraved with ink with the sigils of devils. Elodie had always wondered if the only reason her mother had not done so sooner was because of societal norms. It was ritualistic. The family gathered round in a candlelit table as her hands were strapped to the table, and eternally inked. Hours passed with no respite. Only when the final sigil, the Morningstar, was inked into her upper arm could she leave her seat. She remembered the agony that came for weeks after it, as merely lifting a finger was like fire erupting through her body. They dismissed it as the magick's influence that she simply had to endure. That she did, and she remembered every bitter moment of staring out a window, realizing it was too late to escape.▍ ❝ INHERITANCE
Shortly after Elodie's hand carving did it happen. Her mother's hands and arms burned to cinders. The cries were like nothing that she had ever heard; anguished cries that begged for mercy. She had not seen it happen,
she had only heard the aftermath. The flames had left nothing but ash and bone of her hands. Too injured to continue then, and the only child of the matriarch, Elodie was thrust into overtaking the business.She did so, albeit reluctantly.▍ ❝ PRESENTLY
Elodie continues running the business, despite the many tensions in her family. She was not so oblivious as to believe everything she was told, or learned, or instructed. The family name reeked of secrecy; one she vowed to uncover, no matter how bitter it would be to take.
